One way to swim straight down underwater is to perform a duck dive. A duck dive is a technique used to dive down to swim underwater.

Begin by taking a deep breath, submerging your head, and tucking your chin towards your chest. Lift your hips and legs towards the surface, push down with your hands, and maintain a streamlined position. Angle upwards at the end of the dive, bring your hands back to your hips, and kick your legs to ascend to the surface.
